Blakeney is located on the North
Norfolk Coast, just North of the small market town of Holt. This part of the
coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the
marshes and wide-open spaces around Blakeney make it a haven for migratory birds
and wildlife.
Blakeney is popular with
dinghy sailors, bird watchers and walkers, and you can get a real feel for the
area by
taking a trip
to Blakeney Point to see the seals.
Things to Do:
Blakeney Point:
Blakeney Point is a shingle spit running west from Cley, protecting Blakeney
from the sea. It has abundant wildlife, and a seal colony, to which there are
boat trips. For more information visit the
National Trust website.
Sailing: there are a variety of sailing clubs in the area to choose from,
including Blakeney Sailing Club, and also
Blakeney
Point Sailing School, which
runs sailing courses and activities including powerboats and Keelboat sailing
with RYA Basic Skills and Day Sailing Courses running from May to August.
Crabbing: children love
crabbing from the Quay and hiring canoes.
Golf/tennis: There is a wealth of golf courses in the area. The courses
at Sheringham, Brancaster and Hunstanton are well regarded. There is also tennis
at Blakeney Tennis Club.
Pubs
and Restaurants: There are so many good pubs and restaurants in Blakeney
and the surrounding area that it is impossible to list them all. Among some of
the more exceptional are the Hoste Arms in nearby Burnham Market, the George in
Cley, the Crown in Wells, the Victoria at Holkham, Morston Hall in Morston and
of course the Moorings, The Kings Arms and the White Horse in Blakeney itself.
Blakeney Deli:
Opened in August 2004,
Blakeney
Delicatessen is a specialist, family-owned fine food and wine shop situated
on the High Street. The creation of chef Kelby Light and former
restaurateur Rob Williams, Blakeney Delicatessen supplies fresh, seasonal and
local produce - which is often organic - as well as carefully sourced deli foods
from around the world and a wonderful selection of wines.
Cley: This quaint village, one mile away
is a mecca for birdwatchers and walkers.
Beach Walking: the local beaches
(particularly at Holkham and Wells) are world renowned for their magnificent
beauty and cleanliness.
Holt:
The pretty Georgian town of Holt is 4 miles away with its numerous boutiques,
coffee shops, delis and restaurants.
Blakeney Trading
Company: This wonderful shop selling
lovely furnishings, gifts and accessories for the home is seconds away from the
cottage.

Blakeney used to be a small port, but is now a quiet village
and provides an ideal location for a family holiday. The village has a strong
identity, and is a thriving and active community. There is a well-stocked
supermarket and Post Office, fishmongers, an interiors shop, chandlers and two
pubs. The Blakeney Floral Company has just opened a few metres further up the
High Street, providing the most exquisite blooms.
